Pornography late at night

This post assumes you have some working knowledge of EFT.  If not please see the tabs at the top of the blog for an introduction to EFT so this post will be more helpful for you.

One young man I have been working with typically views pornography late at night.  As we addressed other aspects of his addiction, towards the end of our visit he emphasized that he just can’t seem to get to sleep.  His porn viewing is typically after 11:00 p.m., many times at 1 or 2 a.m.  He has tried to change this sleep pattern, but to no avail.  So, I instructed him that he could actually use EFT to help change  his sleep pattern.  If a person goes through the tapping points focusing on the ways they aren’t sleepy, focusing on feeling wide awake late at night, I have actually see people change chronic sleep patterns in just a few nights.  I also instructed him that he could use the process to help himself stay awake during the day, so that he would more likely be sleepy at night.

After we discussed this for a few minutes, I ran some phrases by him to test him on certain beliefs that might be contributing to the problem.  I had him say,

If I go to bed early, I’ll miss the girls

If I go to bed early, I’ll miss out on all the fun

If I go to bed early, I’ll miss out on all the exciting stuff.

It was surprising to him that each of these had some truth to them, especially the last one.  So, we put these statements into set-up phrases and tapped on each of them until they no longer had any intensity.  The point here is that part of his brain had the perception that fun and exciting stuff happens late, and it wanted that more than sleep.  In tapping through this with EFT, the mind shifts to the truth; none of these girls have actually ever been here, the fun was perverted and left me feeling terrible, and I am deceiving myself when I get about excited about girls on a computer monitor.  It can’t happen with them.  After a few minutes of tapping on each of these, they quickly aligned with the truth.  I’ll ask him next time how the sleeping is going.
