EFT for Pornography Addiction – What if I am skeptical?

What if a person is skeptical about using EFT for pornography addiction? Does it still work, or does it  just work because people believe it will work?  Is this some kind of a placebo effect?

These are good questions.  What I have seen in my office is that most of my clients are skeptical and doubtful.  Usually for a number of reasons.  One is they have tried so many things and nothing has worked and they are still stuck in this addiction.  Another reason is because EFT is so unusual, so different, it just seems unlikely that this process will work. I understand that response, it is a normal response.  Our response is based on our beliefs which is based on our experience, and for most tapping on acupuncture points to become free of an addiction is not part of their experience.  In a way you could say it violates their beliefs, it simply does not fit in the their belief system.

Despite most of my clients starting off this way, usually by the end of the first visit they are no longer skeptical. Even though it might not make sense, they really do feel a difference, and they are grateful for that.  Despite initial skepticism, most are completely free of the pull of pornography in their life in a few months.

I recently had a first time client who has a very scienctific/logic based profession.  He peppered me with questions for about an hour about the process. He wanted to know how it worked, why it worked, and was just incredulous that this could do anything.  However, once we got to tapping, the intensity of the pull he felt from a certain pornographic video he had watched went from a 5 to a 4, feeling curious went from a 7 to a 4, and women with a seductive attitude are fun and exciting went from a 6 to a 2.  So, we by no means are done, this was a first step.  As he left he said, almost under his breath, “I guess as long as it works it doesn’t matter why.”

So, even if you are skeptical, the process still works.  If you have any comments or questions regarding this or other posts, feel free to respond.
