The truth about fear

I was recently visiting with a man who I had done some coaching with who was doing really well. I was free and in control. He had no desire for porn, there were no craving to resist. He simply didn’t want the stuff. As I was reviewing many of the triggers and beliefs that used to sabotage him, he told me that one of the things that had made the biggest difference was understanding the truth about fear.

There is an exercise I usually do with those I coach to help them discern fear. I made a few youtube videos that also overview this exercise.

The bottom line is that fear is Satan’s lie, he wants us to focus on worst case scenarios and fear them. The more we fear something, the more we focus on it. The more we focus on it the more likely we will do it. We move in the direction we are looking; fear causes us to look in the direction we don’t want to go. It causes us to move towards the very thing we are trying to avoid. Fear does not protect us. Being aware of the truth helps to protect us, not fear. If I near a hot kitchen stove, I don’t need fear to avoid burning myself, correct information helps to keep me safe.

I would encourage you to click on the link above and go through the exercise. Learning to discern fear from faith will do much to liberate you.
